The MusicianShip’s Summer Program is a multidisciplinary initiative that includes a marching band, a choir, and tracks in both music business and music media. Going from just 2 students in 2010, to nearly 200 students in 2015, we have created a versatile program that meets the needs of musical students across the District of Columbia.
The MusicianShip offers a range of programs for our students to get involved with to further develop them as musicians and young men and women in our society.
The MusicianShip’s Marching Band Program features brass, woodwind, and percussion instrumentalists. Marching Bands are uniquely tailored to high impact work. By engaging youth through marching band, we are encouraging hundreds of students to consider higher education pathways, while enabling them to receive music scholarships.
The MusicianShip’s brand new Choral Program features soprano, alto, and tenor vocalists. We have a concert choir and smaller elite performing ensembles. By engaging students through choir, we are giving a voice to the voiceless, boosting self-esteem, and allowing them to express themselves in empowering ways.
The MusicianShip’s Music Business Program features courses in contracts, marketing, promotions, and other music-industry-essential vocations. By engaging students through music business, we are teaching them math, financial literacy, technology, and other common core curricula.
The MusicianShip’s Music Media Program features courses in radio, TV, film, and broadcast journalism. By engaging students through music media, we are exposing them to a variety of career pathways that include, but expand far beyond, music.
