The MusicianShip’s Summer Program is a multidisciplinary initiative that includes marching band, choir, and dance ensembles as well as tracks in both music business and music media. Going from just 2 students in 2010, to about 200 students in 2018, we have created a versatile program that meets the needs of creative students across the District of Columbia. The programs serve youth ages 6 to 21 and culminate in a large end-of-summer showcase, “Dianne’s Recital”.
The MusicianShip offers a range of programs for our students to get involved with to further develop them as musicians and young men and women in our society.
The MusicianShip is hosting a 6-week summer program at Columbia Heights Education Campus in NW Washington, D.C. Students between 7th and 12th grade will have the opportunity to participate in one of our performing arts ensembles – Choir, Dance, Drumline or Marching Band.
Some students joining this program are participants in the Marion Barry Summer Youth Employment Program. These students are eligible to participate in our performance ensembles as well as our Music Media or Music Business tracks.
In 2017, The MusicianShip expanded it’s summer programming to include students in Elementary and Middle School. This year, we will be hosting a 75-student program at KIPP DC Webb in NE Washington, D.C. This program will boast choir, drumline and band. Students must be in grades K – 8 and at least 6 years of age.
