Wammie Weekend Cancellation
This morning, we notified our Wammie Award finalists and performers that we will, unfortunately, be cancelling Wammie Weekend until further notice. We are as disappointed as many of you, but have been advised by the Mayor’s Special Events Task Force Group to cancel our weekend, as it is considered a mass gathering.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as well as the World Health Organization (WHO), have made similar recommendations to promote the health and safety of communities around the globe. While we were excited to bring back Wammie Weekend this year, our main priority is ensuring that we do our part to protect people against potential exposure to the Coronavirus (COVID-19). After extensive discussion and careful consideration, by The MusicianShip’s leadership team, Board of Directors, and the Lincoln Theatre, who has cancelled all programs through March, we were led to make this difficult decision. We are, however, exploring an alternative means by which we might still announce and celebrate our Wammie Award Winners. For those who purchased tickets directly from us, we will be issuing refunds.
For those who purchased tickets from the Lincoln Theatre, they have agreed to issue full refunds as well. From our performers and panelists, to our nominees, finalists, hosts, judges, and presenters, we want to thank you for being a part of our Wammie community. Your continued passion and support for DMV music ensures that we’ll get through this together. Please stay tuned as we consider our next steps in celebration of the best and brightest of the DMV’s creative community. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at hello@wammiesdc.org.
